Leading US Grocery Chain Kroger to Stop Accepting Visa Credit Payments
Kroger stores will no longer accept Visa credit card payments from customers due to "excessive transaction fees".
The move affects Kroger stores as well as their brands Foods Co. Supermarkets and Smith’s Food & Drug Stores.
Beginning April 3, 142 supermarkets and 108 fuel centers across 7 states will no longer accept Visa credit cards at their stores.
Visa has been misusing its position and charging retailers excessive fees for a long time. They conceal from customers what Visa and its banks charge retailers to accept Visa credit cards. Visa’s excessive fees and unfairness cannot continue to go unchecked. That’s why, starting April 3, Smith’s will accept all forms of payment except Visa credit cards. ~ Mike Schlotman, Kroger’s executive vice president and CFO
Visa debit cards will still be accepted at the grocery stores chain.
