El claroscuro es una técnica pictórica que hace uso de contrastes fuertes entre los diversos volúmenes, unos iluminados y otros ensombrecidos, para destacar algunos elementos en particular.​ Esta técnica que posteriormente sería incorporada a otras artes, tales como el cine, permite la creación de mayores efectos de relieve y modelado de las formas, a través de la gradación de tonos lumínicos.

En el casco central de la ciudad de Barquisimeto, se encuentra una vieja casona que data de principios del Siglo XX. Inaugurado en el año 1918, en aquel entonces como una institución pública de salud bajo el nombre de Hospital de la Caridad. Esta estructura sería construida de acuerdo al proyecto del ingeniero de origen alemán Justo Rosenberg, para lo cual se hizo uso de técnicas tradicionales sobre tres lotes de terreno que comprendían el antiguo Hospital San Lázaro, la edificación de la Cárcel Pública que fuese destruida por el terremoto que azotó gran parte del país en 1812, y el tercer lote donde se ubicaba una casa de habitación.

En 1924 se levantaría la Capilla San Miguel situada en el patio interior de la casona. Posteriormente, en 1939 en homenaje a su fundador, Antonio María Pineda, el concejo municipal de la época le colocaría su nombre al hospital, el cual funcionaría en esa ubicación hasta el año 1954, cuando sería trasladado a su actual sede en la Avenida Vargas, dentro del marco de la celebración del Cuatricentenario de la ciudad. Posteriormente, luego de muchos años de abandono, la edificación sería restaurada para destinarla desde 1982 como sede del Museo de Barquisimeto, uso que conserva en la actualidad.

La fotografía corresponde a un pasillo o corredor de la edificación, donde a la izquierda pueden observarse las salas de exposición, anteriormente empleadas como quirófanos o habitaciones para los pacientes, y a la derecha puede observarse parte de la antigua Capilla San Miguel. Particularmente, me agrada la sombra que proyectan los pilares o columnas de la estructura sobre el piso de la misma, de alguna manera expresa lo que padecimos los venezolanos durante el reciente apagón nacional, donde gran parte del territorio nacional quedó a oscuras, en una trágica crisis que aún no se ha superado del todo.

La imagen original, y la cual presento al final de esta publicación, fue realizada a color al igual que el resto de las que tomé aquel día, posteriormente, con las diversas herramientas de edición que proporciona la aplicación PicsArt, la intervine con el fin de llevarla a blanco y negro.

The chiaroscuro is a pictorial technique that makes use of strong contrasts between the various volumes, some illuminated and others overshadowed, to highlight some elements in particular. The photograph corresponds to a corridor of the building, where on the left you can see the exhibition halls, previously used as operating rooms or rooms for patients, and on the right you can see part of the old Chapel San Miguel. Particularly, I like the shadow projected by the pillars or columns of the structure on the floor of the same, somehow expresses what we Venezuelans experienced during the recent national blackout, where much of the national territory was in the dark, in a tragic crisis that has not yet been fully overcome.

The original image, and which I present at the end of this publication, was made in color as well as the rest of the ones I took that day, later, with the various editing tools provided by the application PicsArt, I intervened in order to take it to black and white.
