La primera universidad canaria

En el instituto “Cabrera Pinto” de la ciudad de San Cristobal de La Laguna en la isla de Tenerife existe esta escalera para subir al primer piso. Los escalones de piedra volcánica y las columnas del mismo material son de un color oscuro, casi negro, y hacen un fuerte contraste con las paredes blancas y la delgada barandilla de hierro.

Ascendiendo desde la oscuridad hacia la luz, en un recodo, me paré e hice la foto.

El instituto “Cabrera Pinto” es un edificio singular, estilo canario, que fue la primera universidad que existió en las islas Canarias.

At the Cabrera Pinto Institute in the city of San Cristobal de La Laguna on the island of Tenerife there is this staircase to go up to the first floor. The steps of volcanic stone and the columns of the same material are of a dark color, almost black and make a strong contrast with the white walls and the thin iron railing.

Ascending from the darkness to the light, in a bend, I stopped and took the picture.

The Cabrera Pinto Institute is a unique building, Canarian style, which was the first university that existed in the Canary Islands.

El instituto tiene un claustro renacentista del siglo XIV, ya que antes fue el Convento de San Agustín. Se considera el mejor claustro de Canarias.

En el siglo XVIII, este edificio albergó la primera universidad de Canarias. En 1846, la universidad se trasladó al campus actual y el edificio pasó a ser un Instituto de Segunda Enseñanza.

Su jardín interior es una preciosidad. Tiene varias palmeras y plantas autóctonas. En los tejados han crecido espontáneamente verodes. Para que lo admiréis, os dejo a continuación unas cuantas fotos de este edificio canario ubicado en una de las 15 ciudades declaradas Patrimonio de la Humanidad en España.

The institute has a Renaissance cloister from the 14th century, since it used to be the Convent of San Agustín. It is considered the best cloister in the Canary Islands.

In the 18th century, this building houses the first university in the Canary Islands and later, in 1846, the university was located on the current campus and the building became an Institute of Secondary Education.

Its interior garden is gorgeous with several palms and native plants and roofs where they have grown spontaneously verodes. So you can admire it, then I leave you a few photos of this Canarian building located in one of the 15 cities declared World Heritage Sites in Spain.
