French Court Finds Monsanto Liable For Poisoning Farmer

in #monsanto5 years ago

A French court has recently ruled that Bayer's Monsanto is liable for poisoning a farmer with one of their weedkillers.

This makes one more recent ruling against the company among a tidal wave of lawsuits, thousands of them, that are seeking to argue that Monsanto's weedkiller products made many people sick.

Now that the court has ruled against Monsanto, they've been ordered to pay restitution to the farmer, as they've also been ordered to do in the United States. The victim in France, Paul François, says that this victory has come after more than a decade of fighting for justice, after he became ill many years ago.

It was the Monsanto weedkiller product known as Lasso that was specifically named as being responsible for contributing to the illness, which included headaches and memory loss for François. The chemical in that weedkiller, known as monochlorobenzene, has already been prohibited in a variety of regions and has since been pulled from the market.

It's argued that the product lacked adequate labeling and the court also determined the same; ruling that Monsanto should have included a more suitable label.

Monsanto continues to appeal

The people who are suffering from a variety of illnesses now, who have lawsuits against Monsanto, don't have the luxury of time on their hands. But Monsanto continues to appeal the rulings that haven't been in their favor and will likely appeal this one as well. Who knows how long that could extend the process and further the time until those who are seeking compensation for their injuries see anything in-return.

Organic food is more prefer of many but grow your own food is much better...

if you've got the space, time, and knowledge it sure is!

From what I have read in the US lawsuits they have quite a bit of inside info that shows they have known all along but have been cooking the books.
It seems like their should be some criminal charges filed as well.

shameful business tactics

I have never liked weed killers or pesticides, I realize large farms use them more but my gardens have always been organic and NO Weed killers of any kind I prefer to plant Marigolds, garlic , onions around to help keep pests away! Love your food news @doitvoluntarily ! upped earlier now resteemed! 👍❤🌱🌱🌱
🐓🌱 Eat fresh organic and free range ( im currently looking to buy chickens ) and live healthy! 🌱🐓

Weeds is good for the soil since it brings up nutrition, if you kill the weed eventually you get dead soil where you cant grow anything
