في عصر طغت فيه وسائل التكنولوجيا في حياة الإنسان اليومية وأصبحت جزءا مهما ومظهرا من مظاهر الحياة في القرن الحالي، ظهر مرض التوحد لدى الأطفال بنسبة كبيرة وبدأ بالشيوع في أوساط الأسر التي يعاني أطفالها من الإهمال وتتكل فيها الأمهات على التلفاز لتهدئة الأطفال وتسليتهم لساعات طوال.
ويربط الأطباء المتخصصون عوامل الإصابة بهذا المرض بأسباب متعددة؛ من بينها تلك المتعلقة بالولادة وعوامل دماغية وجينية وبيولوجية ومناعية أيضا، فقد أكدت الأبحاث والدراسات أنه توجد احتمالات كبيرة لإصابة أشقاء الشخص المصاب بالتوحد بالمرض ذاته وبالتالي إصابتهم باضطرابات أخرى ذات علاقة بالتواصل الاجتماعي.
وبخصوص العلاج اللازم لمثل هذه الحالات، تسترسل المتحدثة: "العلاج السلوكي يساعد كثيرا في علاج الحالات التي تعاني من أعراض مرض التوحد، خاصة تعلم التحدث والتواصل والتطور جسديا والتعامل مع الاخرين بسهولة أكبر".
ولا يوجد علاج دوائي ضد أعراض مرض التوحد نفسه، توضح المتحدثة، "هناك أدوية يمكن أن تساعد في معالجة بعض الأعراض، وأدوية المكافحة الذهانية، ويمكن أن تساعد الذين يعانون من مشاكل سلوكية خطيرة مثل العدوانية وإيذاء الذات ونوبات الغضب. الأدوية التي تساعد ضد نوبات التوحد يمكن أن تساعد هي أيضا، وتصف أحيانا مضادات الاكتئاب للأطفال لتخفيف بعض من هذه الأعراض؛ لكن لا يوجد علاج فعال لعرض التوحد وحده".

In an age where technology has dominated everyday life and has become an important part of life in the present century, autistic children have emerged in a large proportion and have begun to grow up among families whose children are neglected and mothers rely on television to calm children and entertain them for hours on end.
Specialists link the causes of the disease to multiple causes, including birth, brain, genetic, biological and immunological factors. Research and studies have confirmed that there is a high risk of autism in the siblings of the person with autism and thus other social disorders.
As for the treatment needed for such cases, the spokeswoman says: "Behavioral therapy helps greatly in the treatment of cases with symptoms of autism, especially learning to talk and communicate and develop physically and deal with others more easily."
There is no drug treatment against the symptoms of autism itself, explains the spokeswoman, "There are drugs that can help in the treatment of some symptoms, psychotropic drugs, and can help those suffering from serious behavioral problems such as aggression, self-harm and tantrums. It can also help and sometimes prescribe antidepressants for children to relieve some of these symptoms; but there is no effective cure for autism alone. "
