The Dalai Lama or also called Great Lama, is the spiritual leader of the Buddhist religion that is the main practiced in Tibet. He is considered not only a living God but also a political chief since the fifteenth century.

"Dalai" is a word of Mongol origin that means "ocean" and "Lama", the Tibetan equivalent of the Hindu term guru that designates spiritual masters. United, both terms, are commonly translated as "ocean of wisdom." For the Tibetans the Dalai Lama is first and foremost a title and designates both the quality of the spiritual leader, the most eminent religious figure in the Buddhist world, and the temporary head of Tibet who is given the role of head of government.

The current Dalai Lama named Tenzin Gyatso, is number 14 in succession and is the one who continues with the pacifist struggle claiming for the Chinese occupation in Tibet. Currently, he resides in the north of India where he settled along with the democratic institutions of the Tibetan community in exile.

The most eminent representative of the Tibetans continues to spread his teachings of Buddhism and in his pacifist struggle strives to gather other countries in the cause for Tibet. According to his own wish, he will not return to his country until he can guarantee happiness to the Tibetans.
In December of 1989, he received the Nobel Prize in La Paz for his peaceful struggle.

This wise man, fervent in the practice of his religion and who strives for peace and unity in the world, has written numerous books from which we have extracted some of his memorable phrases full of teachings and messages for life and peace.

  1. Do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace.

  2. The more you are motivated by love, the bolder and freer our actions will be.

  3. Death equals us all. It is the same for a rich man as for a wild animal.

  4. When they speak weapons, the result is death and destruction. Weapons do not distinguish between the innocent or the guilty. Consequently, the real losers are the poor and those who can not defend themselves.

  5. We make mistakes when emotions invade us and lead us to bad actions.

  6. The means to change your mind is affection, not anger.

  7. Anger is born of fear, and this of a feeling of weakness or inferiority. If you have value or determination, you will have less and less fear and as a result you will feel less frustrated and angry.

  8. It is much better to make friends, understand each other and make an effort to serve humanity, before criticizing and destroying.

  9. If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

  10. Parental affection, physical contact, loving tenderness towards all living beings, social responsibility and special attention to the less privileged, all these concepts are so simple to understand. So, why does your practice seem to cost us so much?

  11. I am convinced that in the end truth and love among men will always prevail over violence and oppression.

  12. Anger is one of the most serious problems that the world faces today.

  13. Anger is our real enemy because it is in our mind. Anger never changes its nature. It always hurts and destroys. And what's worse, annihilate our own strengths and energies.

  14. All suffering is caused by ignorance. People inflict pain on others in the selfish pursuit of their own happiness or satisfaction.

  15. If you do not forgive for love, forgive at least for selfishness, for your own welfare.

Excellent thoughts! The Dalai Lama talks about love, hate, forgiveness, understanding and anger. All these feelings are alive in this world that we live today, and the challenge that it proposes to us is that the good ones overcome the bad ones.

Each phrase contains a teaching and in all of them you surely felt identified. It invites us to think and to reflect on why such noble feelings as affection or love, are so difficult to practice.
