Be Ready II.

Like I was saying, age is never a guarantee for marriage. I have heard a lot of people say they want to get married at 30. It is never bad to set a target but you should be able to speed up the development of other vital aspects of your life if you want to make that target count. What is the point in setting that target and you are not ready mentally, socially, financially, spiritually; the most important, and even physically? You might be 24 and yet ready for marriage due to maturity, learning process and exposure. Your exposure is your reality.
You need to be ready on all fronts. I am not saying all the conditions must be perfect before you can, I am only saying you need to build your capacity to handle things better before you go into it. You can’t stick to your old ways and expect new things to come in. It would be foolishness to keep doing things the same way and expect different results.
Marriage opens your eyes to the possibility of a life filled with sacrifices. You can’t be married and expect to stick to the things and ideologies you have held on to while you were single. Things need to change. A lot of people want to do the things they did while they were single now that they are married. You need to always factor your partner in how you plan your life. You need to have him or her involved in your equation.
You want to go for that expensive wristwatch and deep down you know you have bills to clear in the house, where is the sense in that? You need to learn the art of sacrifice and putting your family’s need above yours and when that has been satisfied, you can now think about giving yourself the treat you feel you deserve.
I read about a man who said he couldn’t afford a shoe and yet he still went to a popular mall to purchase groceries and children items worth 170,000 Naira. He understands the place for sacrifice, priority and I think he has a deep understanding. Communication, understanding and sacrifice go hand in hand in a relationship or marriage.
