I do agree that clarity works but sometimes things are not like that. You can be caught up in more than one thing at a time l. It doesn't mean you are wasting your time. One might actually complement the other in the future. You might have actually wasted your time doing something for years without result, and you might move to something else another day and just make it. Such is life
