Sitting listening to Bob Marley, valve amplifiers and turntables rule the day.

I made them valve amplifiers, with help.

I get bored if I have nothing to fix or make, hence why I restore motorbikes.

Winter here can be quite harsh, I do the basics, shopping, feed all the animals, take daughter to school, spend hours playing games with her, but still have a mass of time on my indoor hands, so I make electronics.
Last winter I was making 100 watt plus 100 watt integrated amplifiers, this year I went for pure class A valve mono blocks.

We have 20 watts pure class A at 8 ohm. And the valves are the sort easily available here - 6s33s and 6n6p, the sound? AMAZING.

If I was in the UK I would have made a kt66 or kt88 amplifier, as they are easy to find, I do have some GEC kt66's in my collection of things, they are though for my daughter to sell one day when I am gone, so they were never going to be used here.

I actually managed to pick another 2 spare brand new valves up off eBay last week (6s33s) It was quite odd too. someone wanted $31 for them in the Ukraine next door. I offered $25 and they counter offered $24, of course I clicked buy now. :-)

So here I sit tonight listening to Enya as I type, with a wall of fantastic sound behind my keyboard, stuck in the 80's @frot? Maybe, but by god it sounds amazing, I feel for the people that will never hear sound like this unless they go to a multiplex cinema.

Turntable?

Pro-ject carbon, running a goldring e3 purple - new cartridge, it blows away my £3,000 cd player, in fact since I have had this turntable set up, I can not even be bothered to turn the cd player on.
Even with a warm and inviting sounding pair of amplifiers, the cd now sounds harsh, clinical, lacking in depth, fake, and just bloody useless.

So I may as well play you some tunes, through what ever it is you use to listen via.

I am now listening to Frank Zappa - joes garage, you may not like that though lol so!!!!!!!

Here is 1 hour and 16 minutes of Bob Marley.

Have a superb weekend one and all, I am playing silly buggers with motorbikes in the AM, two more arrived today.

One of his best albums. Zappa, to me a Legend.

The amps sound amazing, though I would say that would I not.
The bikes, well 2 of them anyway need fixing, I know a man that can. :-)

I remember as a kid my Grandparents had a radio with record player that would play through many pre loaded records. Had such an amazing deep smooth sound I have never heard on anything since. And it was an valve system as I helped grandad change out a valve one time. Tell that bloke you know to get them bikes sorted ASAP. :)

You have heard the secret sound then, you know the warmth it gives, you need to dig down and recreate said sound my friend, your grandad was a smart cookie then.
The man is on the job in the morning, cold fingers and all. :-)

Yes I have heard that awesome sound and yes warmth is an excellent description. Glad to here the fella is on the job even though he is freezing his fingers. Yes my grandad was a very smart man he would run rings around most people's survival food gardens. I learnt so much practical skills from him in the short number of years I had to spend with him.

He sounds like he was a truly wonderful human being.

Very much so I just wish I was able to have more time learning from him. I almost never came into this world as he was almost shot in WW2 as he was in the medicore picking up wounded soldiers from the battle field he only told me his war story once and never mentioned it again.

Reminds me of my dad, he was a lot older than my mom, he fought in ww2 and never wanted to talk about it.

Glad the amps work my friend! They look awesome and I bet they sound even better .. such a rich and deep sound, I've still got to get you the details of my mates rig!

If you could, just out of interest.

Making a valve pre amplifier to match now, as I want it all valve with a phono input too. :-)

20Watt of class A is a lot of sound!
Must be a joy to feel those Reggae bass lines.
I hope you have 12inch woofers doing the heavy lifting.

Actually using some speakers that I never knew existed in the UK, Made by ASW. 3 drivers and front ported, floor standing, rich textured sound, deep bass and a superb to fantastic mid-range courtesy of the amplifiers.

Accurate Sound Wave does that company still exist? I never had the pleasure to listen to those.

I has front ported 8inch near field monitors... For nearfields front ports can be a bit annoying when the kick drum keeps blowing in your face.

:-D

Accurate sound still exists http://www.accurate-sound.com/

A lot of the true fantastic hi-fi companies and designers are now sadly defunct or dead. :-( Like sd acoustics to name but 1.
