On the Basis of Sex - Movie Review - No Spoilers
My Review
As will all of my reviews I will not go into the plot
This is a must see movie as it shows one of the pivotal moments in the history of the United States. Felicity Jones plays Ruth Bader Ginsburg and shows her early career from law school to her first Court challenge.
The only problem that I had with the movie is how it dealt with the passage of time. The movie starts in 1959 and ends up in 1970 where she and her husband Martin, represented Charles Moritz, and took on Section 214 of the Internal Revenue Code which specifically limited the deduction to "a woman, a widower or divorce, or a husband whose wife is incapacitated or institutionalized".
Felicity Jones is one of my favorite actresses and she owns this film. The other stand out is Cailee Spaeny who plays Ruth's daughter Jane. The rest of the supporting cast gave fairly cookie cutter performances and this is one one of the things that prevented me from rating it higher.
