Tarantino at his Finest

One of Tarantino's earlier movies that showed that his style which wasn't exactly like a lot of other directors. He managed to combine the violence of video games/Japanese animation, while not following the standard telling of a story. I.e. he told it in a somewhat fragmented way.

In case you haven't seen this movie, it is essentially three stories woven together by chance. One of stories is about two hit men that need to retrieve a briefcase, the contents of which is never explained. We get introduced to these two as they are debating what various McDonald's burgers are called in other countries. E.g. the quarter pounder is called "Le Royal" in France as they use the metric system of measurement, and therefore wouldn't know what a "pound" was.

The second story involves a Boxer who should have thrown a fight, but doesn't and accidentally kills his opponent, oops. The two hit men are the ones that bribed the boxer for their boss, and ultimately find the boxer by accident but still kill the boxer.

The third story involves the bosses wife, whom is to be escorted out of town, however, she participates with one of the hit men in a dance contest, which they ultimately win. She finds some drugs accidentally overdoses, gets revived. The two men get lucky again.

The film finishes at a diner where the two hit man discuss the days events, how lucky the have been by not getting shot, and whether it is time to retire. The do end up with the briefcase, but we never get to see it's contents.

If you like violence of video games, Japanese animation, action, humor, the telling of stories in a slightly different way and have managed NOT to see any of Tarantino's films, then start with either this one or Reservoir Dogs.
