Venom Movie Review

in #movie6 years ago

It was probably hyped more than Spiderman was and us marvel fans wanted to see how Sony makes a Spiderman universe work without Spiderman and we got Venom.

The movie could've been better

That is my review of the movie in the simplest words.

But we know that of course that isn't enough to satisfy the people going to watch the movie and so this is my full review of the movie without spoiling anything and just talking about how the film could've been better and what was missing from the film.

Actual review

Films sometimes suffer from a problem called not enough character development and this is this films problem. It suffers from immense character development and even the main protagonist suffers from this. I've heard that the a significant chunk of the movie has been cut, around 40 minutes and such a large amount will surely affect the film, because maybe that's where all the character development was.

Compton Drake played by Riz Ahmed, was just your typical bad guy with a generic motivation. He was just there in the movie and if the character has been replaced by someone else I would've been fine. Problem is, he is a forgetful villain and we have absolutely no backstory on his motives or why he wants to to what he wants to do. There was no unique thing about him, he just had the generic motivation every other super villain had:

Humanity is a parasyte, it needs to die, bla bla

We didn't get to see what his motivations were, what shaped him this way and his influences aspirations and all of the other stuff. Riz Ahmed was totally wasted on a badly written character like Compton drake.

It was Venom show, but fuck the other actors. Everyone was else was just there for the sake of it, even the love interest Anne. Her mood and changes in relationship with Eddie, it was absolutely nothing. The main people the film focused on was Eddie Brock and Venom which surprisingly I found interesting because when Venom turns into VENOM, that's when the film shines, apart from that it's literally shit.

The film ended fairly quickly, probably because there was 40 minutes of good stuff missing from the movie, "gee thanks Sony". We see Venom in the movie switch sides from riot, but like why was Venom even switching sides and what was riot anyways? When I mean by development there absolutely isn't anything.

However I believe people should form their own opinions when it comes to movies, because people react differently to stories.

Was the movie shit?, yes

Was the movie enjoyable?, yes

Should you go watch it?, YES!
