Benny and Joon

Joon is a mentally ill girl who lives together with her brother Benny in a house. After their parents died due to a car accident, Benny decided to take care of his sister, even though she is an adult person. Benny is very stressed with his work as a mechanic but otherwise Joon has to go into institute, so he has to look after his sister. Their lives turn upside down when they meet Sam, a likeable person who is a little bit weird as well.

Benny and Joon decided to pick Sam up because he has a good influence to Joon and as a consequence both fell in love. However, Benny get to know also a pleasant women called Ruthie, but when he finds out the relationship between Joon and Sam he shows an unexpected reaction.

Benny and Joon is serious movie which offers a lot of entertainment as well. At the beginning, the viewers’ attention is caught with the soundtrack “I’m gonna be” by The Proclaimers. The actors seem very real and especially Johnny Depp (Sam) did a great job. Their authenticity let the viewer be part of the movie, that is why the attention kept all the way. Even it is not the most unpredictable story line, it is still absorbing and hilarious.

However, not only the actors make this movie a masterpiece. In addition, the visual and sound effects are fitting very well while strengthening the message of the film. Whereas funny music is played during humorous scenes, dramatic ones are supported by exciting sound effects.

Benny and Joon is a romantic drama which represents mentally ill people as multifaceted characters. The editing as well as the sound effects give this movie an incomparable touch, therefore everyone should have watched this movie once in life.
