Is it Worth it? Rampage

Is it worth it to see Rampage in the theater? Do you want to see a fun action movie with great CGI? Do you want to see the hamtastic performances of The Rock and Jeffrey Dean Morgan? Do you want an excuse to eat candy and popcorn? If you answered yes to any of these questions then yes, go see Rampage, you will not be disappointed.

 All bullshit aside, Rampage was a good movie. It was fun, had great effects, good performances, a simple but serviceable story, plenty of references to the game and kept the run time to a reasonable level. This is not one of those Transformers/Roland Emmerich monsters that stretch to 3+ hours. Rampage is short, sweet, and to the point. It does not wear out it's welcome and the action is great. The effects are amazing. The gorillas at the beginning look photo realistic and the rampage trio look amazing smashing things up. Even the military CGI was done extremely well. None of those jarring wow it looks just like CGI moments here, it gets everything spot on.

 Two good video game adaptations just a month apart from each other? I never thought I'd say that. Tomb Raider and Rampage prove you can adapt a video game into a fun and interesting movie. Hollywood has been doing some good work lately and as vocal as I am about criticizing it, I can also recognize a good trend. We need more of these fun, good action movies and less of the "dark" "gritty" "15 hours long" kind. Whether this has anything to do with the sharp decline in box office for the last Transformers movie can never be known(it does). I for one am happy to see those kind of movies ride off into the sunset and the "fun" action movie to take center stage again. They also aren't Star Wars or Superhero related so that is a big plus as well.

 Go see Rampage, support it and hopefully we will get more movies like it and Tomb Raider, and Ready Player One. The world is depressing enough, we go to action movies to have fun, not be beat over the head with a message or be bored to death. Rampage is what a summer blockbuster should be, and damn was that CGI impressive.
