Mystery Movie Quote Review: Rounders (1998)

A few days ago, I posted a Mystery Movie Quote:

The movie quote comes from Rounders (1998)

ROUNDERS - REVIEW / SUMMARY

I enjoyed Rounders very much for the poker games, the drama and the relationships exposed in the movie.

The primary character is Mike McDermott, played by Matt Damon. Mike is a reformed gambler, who lost it all. His life with his girlfriend and his law school is flipped on edge when his friend Worm is released from jail. Mike must return to poker and gambling to help pay Worm's gambling debt.

The poker games are very amusing. Mike describes the poker games, as well as the poker players to expose the skill behind playing poker. Mike describes the various 'tells' that expose an amature poker player. Mike describes the feeding frenzy that occurs when seasoned poker players are joined by amatures. Mike also describes the 'angles' that Worm uses to cheat others, such as dealing from the bottom of the deck. Mike would rather play 'straight', without cheating, without angles.

Due to the path that Worm takes, Mike gets further and further in debt and deeper and deeper in trouble.

The relationships are a major part of Rounders, including the relationship between Mike and his girlfriend Jo, the relationship between Mike and his friend Worm, and the relationship between Mike and his law professor Petrovsky.

The relationship between Mike and Worm is the central focus. After Worm is released from jail, he immediately wants to get back to playing poker. He uses Mike's good name and credit to build up a debt on Mike's head. Worm already has a large debt to Grama and KGB. Worm takes advantage of other players and also takes advantage of Mike. Mike looks to help Worm because Worm never had anyone stand up for him. Worm continues to dig deeper in debt and refuses to accept responsibility. Mike is left holding the bag and the debt.

The relationship between Mike and his girlfriend Jo is unusual. After Mike starts playing poker, Jo drops him like a bad hand. She tells Mike that she learned it from him, to throw in the hand when you know you can't win.

The relationship between Mike and his professor Petrovsky is more than just about law. Petrovsky tells personal stories of his life and his decision to become a lawyer, rather than a rabbi. While Mike is a gambler trying to be a law student, it is stories by Petrovsky that clarifies the path for Mike. Mike realizes that he is more a poker player than a law student.

There is also the parallel between Mike looking to help Worm, and Petrovsky looking to help Mike.

Of course, in the end, Mike takes money loaned to him from Petrovsky to play against KGB. Of course, Mike struggles but reigns victorious. He leaves for Vegas after clearing the debts to Grama, KGB, and Petrovsky.

Hey @ronaldoavelino, I am glad you participate in the contest.
I have a question for you: Did you reply with a quote, then edit it with a different quote?

I think you originally posted the "Secret Quote", I saw it. When I went to reply and send the prize, your reply no longer said the "Secret Quote". I was not 100% sure who posted the quote, but now I think it was you. So, . . . Did you reply with a quote, then edit it with a different quote?

Yes, I posted a quote and then I thought that the new quote would be more with the spirit of the picture...Wrong thought!
