There can be only one.

I saw this movie for the first time many years ago, I liked it then and still do. The actions scenes are well done but the special effects should have been better. Sean Connery as a Spaniard is also an interesting concept, best thing to do is just go with the flow. If you can do that, it is an enjoyable movie.



This movie actually begins in New York in what is supposed to be modern day. We have Nash being challenged into a sword fight, he manages to cut off his opponents head. This results in the powers from his opponent being transferred to him. The sensation is called the "quickening", it occurs when one immortal kills another.

Nash surprise is an immortal, he started life in the sixteen century and was mortally wounded by an enemy clan. Somehow he survived, his clan however believed that he could have only survived by making a pact with the devil and he is expelled from his clan.

Shortly he meets Juan, that shows him to be immortal and informs him that he is now part of the game where immortals battle each other to the death (they can be killed by beheading) until there is only one. The last one receives all the power and knowledge of all the immortals.
