The Tiktik

Here is a Mythological creature found in the folklore of my country Philippines. What it is? The Tiktik is a bird-like creature. A cross between human and a bird. That's how the old folks tell about this intriguing being. Intriguing because no one had seen a Tiktik yet but a lot had heard about the sound it makes. The Tiktik is often times heard at night, it makes a sound similar to that of a bird hence the assumption that it is half human half bird. The locals believe that, if you heard the sound clear enough it means the creature is away from you and if the sound comes from up above the sky then the creature is actually just near. The cry of a Tiktik is believed to be a warning that something deadly is coming or it could be the announcement of the creature's arrival. You will see how frightening that scenario could be to a local folk.

The creature is said to be flesh eating and it eats unborn fetus as well as any living human being he finds on his hunt. Some says a Tiktik could be related to the Harpies of Greek mythology.

This illustration I made is my own idea of how a Tiktik looks like taking into consideration all the information I heard and read while growing up. I heard a few versions of the story and this creature is popular in local horror movies. The body is dark with rough texture,zootopia the wings are web fleshy like outgrowth. The claws are bird like. The face is like a human skull with red fierce eyes. The style I chose is simple lines and simple dark figure utilizing only two colors. To evoke that simplistic folklore origin.
