Arhats Putting on a Cap in the Exhibition
As I told before, there were various kinds of arhats. In this post, I’d like to show you arhats putting on a cap to escape from the cold weather.
As I wrote in previous post, Winter weather in Korea was severe. Korea peninsular was directly influenced from Siberian wind in Winter.
To overcome cold weather, people in Korea often used caps and hats.
So putting on the hat when going outside was said as a manner.
Now everything is changed, putting on the hat is no more a manner.
I was a woman taking a photo of arhat. She must be a passionate photographer. She'd took a photo for nearly half hour there.
So I photographed her and arhat with a respect to her passion.
In arhats statues, I saw what I saw when I was a kid. It was a cap what arhats put on. In winter, I could not go outside without a cap. Mom and grandma told me ‘put on a cap’ every time in winter.
Seeing arhats with caps, I was reminded of my childhood.

Just as there many subtle differences in smiles there are unique ways in which each individual comes to the realization of the nature of reality.
The path to enlightenment seems to vary with the individual but the underlying message of the variety of depictions is that enlightenment is possible for everyone.
I think portraying the arhats in a mundane aspect of life such as wearing a winter hat shows that spirituality is not something recondite or unattainable, but accessible to ordinary, everyday people.

Yes, in my opinion, enlightenment seems the process of our lives.
You could get there through endless hope, despair and sufferings.
With this photo I know that you use your respect to her. You are not just a photographer but also a honor artist. Your effort to get photos not just take a shoot. You give your respect. It is not easy efforts.

Yeah I think hats with fluffy fur prevents the cold weather in Korea just like that woman taking the photos really. The arhats too were wearing hats that shows that they have ancient Korean effigy really, so much history really. Amazing shot of that woman

@slowwalker, Actually we're lucky to see these Arhats exhibition because some oldest sculptures not allowed to take photography. Photographers try to show expressions of Arhats face very naturally and perfectly. So don't need to surprise it. These arhats blogs be very important know new thing about Korean Buddhism.
I've come across the term "arhats" when I was doing a research. It relates to Buddhism. Glad to see it again here.
Meanwhile, I've never seen the statue of arhats with hat. This must be a rare statue.
