How to listen to Spotify without ads for free on OSX

If you are using the free version of Spotify, you're probably sick of listening to ads interrupting your pleasant evening. Here's a way you can listen to music without having to listen to ads if you are on a mac. Note that this doesn't remove the ads altogether, (that requires Spotify Premium) but it mutes Spotify for the duration of the ads.

First you have to download the app Spotifree from this website.

How it works

Spotifree works by taking advantage of the Spotify API for AppleScript which runs natively on OSX. It checks every half a second to see if there is no track playing and that the currently playing song has no name. This identifies it as an ad. It then mutes the volume until it checks that the current song isn't an ad then unmutes the volume, giving you a seamless listening experience.
