Le origini della musica moderna - Il Blues

Cosa vedono i nostri occhi? Cosa sentono le nostre orecchie? Verdi praterie sconfinate, fattorie piene di colori, laghi e fiumiciattoli, paludi e fango, delta di fiumi, monti in lontananza, echi di guerre passate, piantagioni, mescolanza di lingue, mescolanza di culture, schiavitù, africa, diritti umani, leggi, note strane, racconti, chitarre scordate, lamenti nei campi, insomma qualcosa bolle in pentola...

Siamo nel profondo sud degli Stati Uniti, fine 1800, delta del Missisipi, qualcosa nell'area si espande, canti, lamenti, modi per evadere dal duro lavoro, gli schiavi importati dall'africa hanno portato con se la tradizione ritmico-melodico africana, che giunse in quei campi dove si sviluppò cambiò e finì per mescolarsi con qualcos'altro, ciò che ne uscì venne chiamato Blues, che a sua volta è figlio dello Spiritual.
E' giusto partire dal Blues e non dallo Spiritual nonostante sia antecedente al blues, perchè in effetti questa moda, cultura, genere musicale, è la prima vera forma di canzone o di brano moderno che si sviluppò e che finì dentro centinaia di altri generi e stili musicali. C'è del Blues in qualunque brano state ascoltando o ascolterete, ed è giusto rendere grazie o almeno conoscere la sua storia.

Il Blues arcaico (1°fase) nasce alla fine del 1800, impostiamo la nostra macchina del tempo su quel periodo storico, magari in qualche localino (malfamato) in una campagna sperduta della Louisiana, o in qualche vicolo di New Orleans, e troveremo sicuramente la figura di un uomo solitario seduto, con accanto una bottiglia di whiskey, un cappello sgualcito e con l'aria di chi ne ha viste e passate tante, esso intona con la sua chitarra un accordo, sopra di esso racconta delle storie vissute o raccontate da altri, attraverso un lamento quasi svogliato. Questo è il Blues delle origini, vede infatti un uomo solo che racconta delle storie cantando, accompagnandosi con la chitarra. Ogni frase cantata ha una sua "risposta" con la chitarra, caratteristica fondamentale del blues è l'utilizzo delle note ad intonazione variabile (Blue Notes) e di uno strano modo di cantare e suonare sul tempo, che verrà chiamato in futuro "swing" ovvero accenti spostati in levare, sui tempi deboli. Tra i musicisti più importanti di questo periodo troviamo sicuramente Charlie Patton, ma anche il più famoso Robert Johnson, autore di brani divenuti poi celebri come Sweet Home Chicago, o Crossroads.

The Blues - The origins of modern music

What do our eyes see? What do our ears hear? Endless green meadows, colorful farms, lakes and rivers, swamps and mud, river deltas, mountains in the distance, echoes of past wars, plantations, mixture of languages, mixture of cultures, slavery, africa, human rights, laws, notes strange, short stories, forgotten guitars, moans in the fields, in short, something is cooking ...

We are in the deep south of the United States, late 1800s, the Missisipi delta, something in the area expands, songs, laments, ways to escape from hard work, slaves imported from Africa brought with them the African rhythmic-melodic tradition, which arrived in those fields where it developed changed and ended up mingling with something else, what came out was called Blues, which in turn is the son of the Spiritual.
It is right to start from the Blues and not from the Spiritual although it is antecedent to the blues, because in fact this fashion, culture, musical genre, is the first true form of song or modern song that developed and that ended up in hundreds of other genres and musical styles. There's Blues in any song you're listening to or listening to, and it's good to give thanks or at least know its story.

The archaic Blues (1st phase) was born at the end of 1800, we set our time machine on that historical period, maybe in some little place (infamous) in a lost Louisiana countryside, or in some alley of New Orleans, and we will surely find the figure of a lonely man seated, with a bottle of whiskey beside him, a rumpled hat and with the air of someone who has seen and passed so many, it intones with his guitar an agreement, above it tells stories lived or told from others, through an almost listless lament. This is the Blues of the origins, he sees a lonely man who tells stories by singing, accompanying himself with the guitar. Each sung phrase has its own "answer" with the guitar, a fundamental characteristic of the blues is the use of variable pitch notes (Blue Notes) and a strange way of singing and playing over time, which will then be called in the future (swing ) or accents moved upwards, on weak times. Among the most important musicians of this period we certainly find Charlie Patton, but also the most famous Robert Johnson, author of songs that later became famous as Sweet Home Chicago, or Crossroads.
