Radiohead is definitely

one of the most influential and original rock bands of all time, and one of the most important of the last 3 decades. They were originally formed in 1985 in England by Thom Yorke (vocals, keyboards), Jonny Greenwood (guitar, keyboards), his brother Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar) and Philip Selway (drums), and have had the same lineup since their debut release. They began with a sort of typical stadium rock sound, though by their second and third releases, they were experimenting with loads of new sounds, harmonic ideas, and production techniques. This song is from the band's

2007 double album, In Rainbows, which was released online via a pay what you want system, which was SUPER cutting edge at the time and influenced a lot of artists who followed them. Unfortunately, the album version isn't available on YouTube, and Vimeo's embed links weren't working here, so I went with this live version, which is just Yorke and a single piano. The harmonic writing on this track is truly incredible, Yorke has an amazing ear for complex harmonies. He uses a cool little move where he moves from our tonic in a minor key UP a minor 3rd (normally our relative major note), but uses a minor chord there too, giving it a really unique sound that you almost never hear in pop music.
