If you think heartbreak songs can only be made in an angry ballad which many artists does, Alanis Morissette is an example who can sing it out in angst. It was pretty evident with her breakthrough single You Oughta Know, which created a legacy from her, and became one of those popular songs by newcomers.

You Oughta Know was believed to have been written for Alanis' ex, so it's pretty obvious that she's the original queen of heartbreak song which became a hit. It contributed to the success of her biggest album ever, and one of the best albums of the 1990s Jagged Little Pill

You are angry, and you mentioned these words with sarcasm. You really meant a disastrous relationship for your ex. And if you think Adele is the first one who expressed "nothing but the best" for your ex (as a sarcasm), it's pretty clear that Alanis Morissette first did it.

The bitterness is very clear. The pain is vert much expressed. When guys (even girls too) promised you that he'll (or maybe "she") stick with you until death, and was never done, these words will remind you.

Yes, she is better. But she said it a way that she's reasonable. She seemed up for revenge, and fearlessly saying she's right on what she's doing.

You Oughta Know may have caused skepticism to some, but it eventually was a big hit for reaching number 6 at the Billboard Hot 100, that it was even unexpected. In UK, a number 22 peak may a bit seem low, but it was still among her most memorable songs ever.
