Notable Song Lines #18: I Don't Want to Wait - Paula Cole
Teens of late 90s to early 2000s may have been familiar of this song if they became avid viewers of the hit teen TV series Dawson's Creek, as this was used as the theme song. It is among one of the best songs of late 1990s, and surely one of the two big hits by Paula Cole.
The song may have something to do with her family's life, and somewhat autobiographical. With beautiful melody, and vocals, the transition in parts of the songs are well-delivered. The music video is kind of a bit creepy, which Johnny Depp can star in.

The worries of being a mother and a wife. When the husband is among the soldiers fighting in a war, the wife is worrying when there's a call from the telephone that it might be a news about her husband getting killed from the war. That surely is one of the nightmares a mom and a wife faces being a soldier's wife.

I want to know right now what will it be
With all the anxieties being far from the husband who is at war, the wife just want a peaceful life. The kind of life together as the husband comes alive. There might be a sort of trauma living such a life.

Could this be the effect of the war? A person who was a soldier and went through a war, mood changes. Anguish is very common brought about by the war. War was controlled by anger in order to win. That could have been an effect, anger issues. Trauma is present. But the wife remains peaceful because she knows what her hubby has gone and going through.
I Don't Wanna Wait gave Paula Cole another hit after the hit alternative track Where Have All The Cowboys Gone. It may only have peaked at number 11 at the Hot 100, but it was number 10 at the year-end due to longevity. It only reached number 43 in UK. In the Philippines, it gained huge airplay and radio success.
