Music Monday - Cover, Cover Cover!
My favorite American icon, light and shadows, demons and god.
What is the hallmark of a great cover version?
One for sure is, when the writer of the original says "That song isn´t mine anymore.", as Nine Inch Nails´ Trent Reznor said about Johnny Cash´s version of Hurt.

Another hallmark is, when the artist doing the cover creates something totally unique in a very creative way while staying true to the spirit of the original.
In what is probably the greatest cover of all times, Patti Smith does exactly that.

Finally, in celebration of the underdog, some Russians covering Gotta Go by Agnostic Front.
While the first two covers are Icons covering icons stuff, this one is regular people doing the cover.
Nevertheless, I think this is also a great cover.
I especially like the tongue-in-cheek approach to the Hardcore posing of the original, how they play with the stereotype of Vodka-drinking Russian ruffians, and of course, how they turn Hardcore into Ska. Brilliant!

It's amazing how some songs have taken on a life of their own, and basically become public property. It WAS FUN to enjoy the Russians doing *Gotta Go"! haha.... A super fun and enjoyable post. :)
