Chris Isaak – “Wicked Game”

“Wicked Game” (1989)

Originally released as a single in 1989, the cool, moody, and brooding song “Wicked Game”  became a hit the following year, when an instrumental version was used in the soundtrack of David Lynch’s film “Wild at Heart.”

Fast and Dangerous

Isaak wrote this song after receiving a phone call from a young woman who offered to meet for a quick sexual encounter. He has stated that it’s about “what happens when you have a strong attraction to people that aren't necessarily good for you.”

Like, maybe, wicked people who play dangerous games.

Sexy and Influential

The song has been covered dozens of times by various artists across the world. The video has won numerous awards, inlcluding for “Best Cinematography”  and “Best Male Video.”  On “Rolling Stone”  magazine’s list of “Top 100 Music Videos,”   it ranks Number 73. In 2010, on Fuse’s “40 Sexiest Videos,”  it came in at Number 1.

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No, I don't want to fall in love (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't want to fall in love (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you, with you (This girl is only gonna break your heart)

What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you

And I don't wanna fall in love (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't wanna fall in love (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you

The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
And I never dreamed that I'd lose somebody like you

No, I don't wanna fall in love (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't wanna fall in love (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
With you (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
No, I ... (This girl is only gonna break your heart)
(This girl is only gonna break your heart)

Nobody loves no one

Dearest Brother @majes.tytyty.

I must confess that I have about two weeks listening to this song several times a day. You know? When you have a melody spinning in your head ... that way I have been for days.

However, I found on youtube a meeting of Chris with his original musicians at the CenterStaging, this production is from 2006 and the sound they achieved this time is truly improved, I loved this version and I would like if you have a few minutes for you to also enjoy
Hugs!

Your friend, Juan.

Cool. Thanks for your input. I found that CenterStaging vid, and am listening to it now. I guess I'll have this song in my head for a few more days, at least. Thanks!

I'm glad to hear that you found it and that you liked it.

I see that our eardrums vibrate at similar frequencies.

Hugs!

This song is soft and sweet and quite emotional too. It's a perfect song for bedtime. As for the lyrics, excellent is an understatement. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, it's very soft and sweet and peaceful. And with regard to your comment about being "perfect for bedtime," in 2010, this vid was ranked the Number 1 "Sexiest Vid," so, yep, it's ideal for bedtime. And ideal for sharing with a friend. ☺

Hahahaha thanks for the additional vid. I will see if I can share with a friend. Winks.

Beautiful music content that is emotionally inclined
