Today is an Elliott Smith day
I've been mostly listening to stuff more along the lines of either psych rock (as a broad term) and stoner metal (as another broad term) but today I'm revisiting a favorite of mine from a past life, Elliott Smith.
Perhaps it's the fact that it's a cold and rainy autumn day. The feeling you'd get if you went outside my home right now is roughly similar to the feeling that listening to Elliott Smith can get someone.
I generally try to stray away from negative when I can now, and it helps me stay positive in my own head space. Elliott Smith's songs are very often full of a lot of negativity. However, the fact that these are songs I've held near and dear to my heart combined with my belief that he's one of the best songwriters at making darkness, fragility, and despair sound beautiful.
Most of my favorite selections of his are more of the solo acoustic sort, not that I don't also love the shiny albums he made at the end of his career.
This is one of my all-time favorites:
Hey, it may not be psychedelic, but all music sounds better when high. Even sad-sad acoustic folk jams.
