Introducing “Topliners” (lyricists, vocalists, melody writers) for DJs and music producers

“Topliner” is not a term that everyone in the music industry is familiar with but if you’re a DJ or a music producer you probably know it.

“Topline” refers to the lyrics, melody and vocals written on “top” of an already produced musical track. Often times, DJs and music producers look for topliners for their tracks since this is not the area of their expertise.

A nice example from our community of a collaboration between a topliner and a DJ/music producer is the track "Be The Change" by @darrenclaxton and @d-vine. Darren is actually a singer/songwriter and, as you will hear in the video below, this was the first time he stepped out of his comfort zone and wrote a topline in a style that he doesn't usually sing in. Since we have many talented DJs, music producers, songwriters, lyricists and vocalists in this space, I have created a channel in the MOS tribe server on discord so you guys can find each other there more easily. Other than @d-vine and @djslethalskillz, I don't know many DJs in our community off the top of my head, but maybe you guys do and you could share this post with them.

And I think this could be an interesting opportunity also for the poets and writers in this space. Maybe some of you will fancy stepping out of your comfort zone and either writing lyrics for a track or having your poem recited with music in the background...
