One Kit Challenge 123 r/MakingHipHop
Super fun contest that happens frequently on reddit's r/MakingHipHop! You are provided with a random combination of sounds such as drum hits, percussion sounds, vocals, piano riffs, guitar riffs, and even sometimes full songs. The challenge is to remix it into something completely different.
This 123rd installment featured heavily distorted samples, so I decided to select the cleanest sounds and compose an instrumental. After filtering out the super fuzzy and overdriven samples, I had about half the kit remaining. I chopped up some drums and my own synth sounds using my MPC Renaissance and Alesis V49 Midi Keyboard, and ultimately I used my Roland SP-555 to give it a ton of effects!
