Autotune Vocal Processing

in #music6 years ago

You have probably wondered whether your favorite singers have had their vocals processed, or whether their real voices sound that incredible. Chances are, if they have released any records, they probably have had their vocals heavily processed.

The most noteworthy processing however, and also the one with the most stigma behind it is Autotuning. Autotuning is a very common practice in the music industry. Some might say this takes out the genuine skills it requires to be a great singer, but I assure you it doesn’t.

Autotuning is a standard in the industry as it allows singers to skip tiny little parts of their singings instead of having a full take rerecorded. It also allows for a track to be absolutely pitch perfect, which is close to impossible as you’d need to not even miss a quarter of a semitone of a pitch on an entire song.

The industry standard is to use melodyne to drag the vocal files onto the correct pitches, and to fine tune it’s lengths or loudness to match the direction of the song.

Overall, Autotune serves as a great tool and shouldn’t be given the negative light that everyone paves it with today!
