When people listen to music, not much actually pay attention to the mix. Something that almost songs across all genres of music have in their mixes are reverb effects. What is reverb? To put it simply, reverb is an electronically produced echo effect in recorded music. Basically, it produces the effect that makes up for the illusion of someone singing in a hall, or in a small studio room, or a huge grass field.

So what are the uses of reverb? Well, if you want your singer to sound like he/she is singing in a very grand hall, we can apply Long Tail/Big Room reverb. Big room revererb produces echoes that last for long amount of time, and also produces it to sound like it belongs in a “wide” space. This is normally used on singers that sing very vocal heavy songs (Adele’s - Skyfall for example), to give a more mysterious/powerful push to the recorded vocals.

Reverb is really important when trying to put into perspective where a sound is coming from. Typically on most instruments on songs, similar reverbs are mixed onto the main instruments to give out the feeling that the instruments all come from the same place- gelling a mix better to provide better quality of music!
