DUTCH MUSIC: There are some pretty great songs (2)
We do have some great music in the Netherlands, this post is a proof of that. Tell me what you think of them.
De Dijk - Nergens goed voor
De Dijk is a band which is already around for many years. Vocalist "Huub van der Lubbe" is also know as the Dutch Joe Cocker, because of the way he moves during singing :). The song "Nergens goed voor" is about a guy who behaves in the worst way. He forgets about every thing but the most imortant thing is that can love his girlfriend like no-one can. Great song...
Golden Earring - Going to the run
The Golden Earring is probably one of the most known Dutch bands out of the Dutch borders. Going to the run is a great song, the acoustic influences are (I think) just awesome. I love to play this song on my acoustic guitar on a holiday.
Kane - Keep my head down
Kane was a succesful band in the Netherlands. Kane was founded by Dennis (Guitar) and Dinand( vocals). The had a lot of different settings in the band. Personally I think that's not good in a band because also a band is about bonding en commitment rather then only goign for success. The had several hits in the netherlands en some other countries, for me "Keep my head down" is one of their best...
Davina Michelle - Het duurt te lang
This is a special one. Davina was populair by singing covers of worldfamous songs on her Youtube channel. She got well known for that which made she got invited by a Dutch TV show "De beste zangers van". in this show different artists sing songs of eachother in a small competition. Davina sang this song of Glen Faria and she did a awesome job. You can tell by glen's emotional reaction he liked it too... But boy can she sing...
Kraantje Pappie - Wat nou als het lukt
Kraantje Pappie is a Dutch rapper with great found lyrics. I saw him a couple of times live (my sons love him) and he is live even better then on record. This song is about a son who wants to become a artist but his mother want's him to succeed at school. The title is (free translation) "What if I do succeed"... It is based on a true story. Fun fact is that his little brother makes all his beats and is the mixmaster during gigs.
Het goede doel - Vriendschap (friendship)
Het goede doel was in the 80's very succesfull. They had some great hits of which this one is for me their best. It is about friendship and that it is often a illusion that you have friendship.
Doe Maar - Nederwiet and Heroine
Doe Maar has to be the biggest band ever in Holland (not outside of Holland).
With their typical Ska / Reggae sound the scored big hits. I selected two of them for this post.
Nederwiet, this song is about Dutch Weed and was at that time controversial. The lyrics are a guide to farm you own weed, every step was mentioned. Although there was resistance against the song it was a big hit.
Heroine was a protest song about the hard drug Heroine. It tels a story about a guy who is addicted to heroine. The song tells about the way he is distroying his life. It's a great uptempo song with lyrics to that are timeless and makes people think... (I hope)....
