Last friday night I brought two friends of mine to the airport Schiphol in Amsterdam, at 03.00 AM !?!.. They were going on a well deserved holiday.

When I dropped them of I returned to Zutphen (about 1,5 hour drive). Along the way I was scrolling down Spotify looking for some music. I got a 'advise' of Spotify to listen to Acda en de Munnik. Acda en de Munnik are, from origin, a cabaret duo. They had some great theatershow's with ambiguous humor but formed a band not long after that. I did always liked their music (the stopped in 2014), they are real magicians when it comes to lyrics. Although I know it's hard here on steemit (with the main language beeing English) to understand, I still want to share this piece of Dutch music history. The harmonies between the two is just amazing.

Dag Esmee

This is one of my favorites. The reasons are divers, I love how Thomas Acda (with Guitar) is building up this song to a climax. His melancholic way of singing is just stunning. This song is about a guy who walk trough the streets of Amsterdam (the red light district) and suddenly sees a girl he used to be on school with. Unlike his career she had become a prostitute. In this song he is trying to get answers why she fel into this industry and giving her solutions to en possible leave of the industry. The power of this song (for me) is the way he sings it combined with the sus-chords on his guitar... Magical.

Henk

Henk, another great song of them. This song I played with my former band Dogz. It's about a guy who runs into his ex-girlfriend. She invites him to diner, together with her husband Henk. The essence is that he lives in the past, thinking of the great things they had. She moved on and just have some good and bad memories, nothing more and nothing less..

Het geeft niet

The lead vocals of this song are by Paul de Munnik. It almost troubadour-esk. This song is about him begging his ex-girlfriend not to leave him and jump into a realtionship with another guy..

As you can see they sing the most about (old) love, life and memories. For me the power is indeed in those kind of lyrics. When it is accompanied with this kind of (vibe) music... I just love it.

Marco Brosato

Another artist in the Netherlands known for his sensitive songs is Marco Borsato. Marco Borsato was the winner of the famous Show "The Soundmix show", you can say this show was the dutch predecessor of shows like "Idols", "The voice of Holland" etc. A talentshow very famous in the Netherlands.

In his first years Marco struggled with writing and releasing songs. He wasn't succesfull at that time.
Things changed when he released the song "De meeste dromen zijn bedrog" , a uptempo popsong translated from a italian song. He reached number one on no time and stayed there for months. That was the beginning of his success.
When you score a hit it is just a matter of time when people in the business start to notice you, with Marco it was the same thing. He got connected to John Ewbank

John has made the writing of sensitive songs with stunning lyrics to artform. The way he writes and the music from that songs is really a signature, it is quite easy to hear if a song is written by him. And the way Marco translates this in his singing as (for some songs) absolutely awesome.

Oud en afgedankt

This song goes through marrow and bone. These lyrics are a representation of reality. It is about a person with Alzheimer's disease. the title means "old and scrapped" , which often really happens with people with Alzheimer's. They are loosing there place in society because they can't participate anymore. Within the story it tells that even the family of the person isn't visiting anymore and that he/she is dependent exactly from those persons to bring a certain quality to life. I think the way the tension is brought in this song, with the fills from drums and the strings... It just hits that spot , at least in my emotion.... My grandmother had Alzheimer's disease, so it is quite close by....

Dochters

This song is ode to his daughter (Dochters means Daughters). Again great lyrics and a powerfull song. The lyrics tell the development of his daughter to a young woman. At first his daughter comes at his bedroom to wake him while she was still a todler, in her teens he wakes her to go to school, when she is about 18 he wakes up at night when he hears she is comming home from a evening out.. etc... The way it fits in the lyrics, it is great.

Afscheid nemen bestaat niet

Another great song under the influence of John Ewbank. This song is about saying goodbye. It has been a support for many people who lost a close person in life....

You can judge these songs as sweet, soft etc... But for me these are some beautiful songs which just hit the right emotional button.... That's what music is all about... Magic and Emotion..
