After the departure of two personnel, Level 42 recruited Gary Husbands as a full-time drummer. Level 42 also recruited Steve Topping as a guitarist, but because the personality of Topping and King was so unbreakable, Topping finally left the band.
STARRING AT THE SUN album recorded with no fixed guitarist. The album was released into the market in 1988 and made it to number two in the UK. In 1993 Husband pulled out of Level 42 following Allan Holdsworth who left the band earlier in the year. Gould eventually rejoined Level 42 in 1994 and became a drummer and lyricist on the FOREVER album. However, togetherness in the band only lasted a moment, because when Level 42 appeared on television, they had performed without Gould. Shortly after the FOREVER album appeared, it was announced that Level 42 was disbanded forever according to their contract.
In 1994, King appeared with his first solo album, BITTER MOON, followed by the second album King ONE MAN. In his second album Boon Gould contributed the lyrics to King's song. Beginning in 2001, Level 42 personnel held a reunion. Mark King, Mike Lindup and Phil Gould played together for the first time in a long time. The RETROGLIDE album was launched in February 2006 which was produced and recorded at King's home.
What is interesting about this band is that each personnel has the expertise to play various musical instruments (multi instrumentalist). At first, sometimes they often change positions in playing the instrument. However, Mark King who was originally known as a drummer then deepens the game of bass. Mark is now known as a great musician when he worked at a music store in London. Mark is very inspired by the funk slap bass game that is in the era of the 70s who are loved. He then studied the technique and developed his own unique style of slap to become one of the trademark of the music level 42. Their single most successful hit is "Lesson in Love ", which reached number three on the UK Singles Chart in the UK, and number 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, on its 1985 release.
