Candombe - National Day / Día Nacional / Nationalfeiertag [En-Es-De]
En el año 2006 se declaró oficialmente en Uruguay el 3 de diciembre como el Día Nacional del Candombe, la Cultura Afrouruguaya y la Equidad Racial. Paradójicamente se declaró este día en recuerdo de la demolición del Conventillo Mediomundo, que fue una especie de templo de este género musical uruguayo, pues durante muchos años fue sede de algunas de las comparsas más importantes de ese país. La fecha seleccionada corresponde a la última vez que sonaron en ese recinto los tambores del candombe dentro de aquel recinto en el año de 1978. Hoy, hace 40 años.
In 2006 it was officially declared in Uruguay on December 3 as the National Day of Candombe, Afro-Uruguayan Culture and Racial Equity. Paradoxically this day was declared in memory of the demolition of Conventillo Mediomundo, which was a kind of temple of this Uruguayan musical genre, since for many years it was the seat of some of the most important troupes in that country. Im Jahr 2006 wurde es der 3. Dezember in Uruguay offiziell zum Nationalfeiertag von Candombe, zur afro-uruguayischen Kultur und zur Rassengerechtigkeit erklärt. Paradoxerweise wurde dieser Tag erklärt als Gedenken an den Abriss von Conventillo Mediomundo, einer Art Tempel dieses uruguayischen Musikgenres, da es viele Jahre lang der Sitz einiger der wichtigsten Truppen des Landes war. Das gewählte Datum entspricht dem letzten Mal, als die Candombe-Trommeln 1978 an diesem haus gespielt wurden. Von heute ab, genau 40 Jahre her.

The candombe is a rhythm that comes from the time of the colony and served as a means of communication for the slaves coming from Africa who arrived at the port of Montevideo.
Although it is a fundamentally Uruguayan manifestation, its variants also exist in Argentina and Brazil.
The Candombe was recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
El candombe es un ritmo que viene de la época de la colonia y servía de medio de comunicación de los esclavos provenientes de África que llegaban al puerto de Montevideo.
Aunque es una manifestación fundamentalmente uruguaya, también existen sus variantes en Argentina y Brasil.

Der Candombe ist ein Rhythmus, der aus der Kolonialzeit stammt und als Kommunikationsmittel für die aus Afrika kommenden Sklaven diente, die im Hafen von Montevideo ankamen.
Obwohl es sich im Wesentlichen um eine uruguayische Manifestation handelt, gibt es ihre Varianten auch in Argentinien und Brasilien.
Der Candombe wurde von der UNESCO als Immaterielles Kulturerbe der Menschheit anerkannt.

Broadly speaking, it can be summarized that the candombe is a community practice, which is why the comparsas are conformed by neighborhoods. Mass participation is very important, since there are usually lots of drums. Although there are three types that constitute the set or the "drums string", such as "el chico", "el repique" and "el piano", hundreds of drums can participate in a comparsa. We must add to this, the songs and dances that accompany it, which ends up bringing together the majority of the members of each community.
A grandes rasgos se puede resumir que el candombe es una práctica comunitaria, razón por la cual las comparsas se conformar por barrio. Es muy importante la participación masiva, pues suele haber cantidad de tambores. Aunque son tres tipos los que constituyen la batería o la “cuerda de tambores”, como lo son “el chico”, “el repique” y “el piano”, en una comparsa pueden llegar a participar cientos de tambores. Hay que sumar a ésto, los cantos y bailes que lo acompañan, lo que termina reuniendo a la mayoría de los miembros de cada comunidad.
Im Großen und Ganzen kann man zusammenfassen, dass der Candombe eine Gemeinschaftspraxis ist, weshalb die Comparsas von Nachbarschaften geformt werden. Massenbeteiligung ist sehr wichtig, da es normalerweise viele Trommeln gibt. Obwohl es drei Typen gibt, die den Set oder die "Schlagzeugsaite" bilden, wie "el chico", "el repique" und "el piano", können Hunderte von Trommeln an einer "Comparsa" teilnehmen. Dazu müssen wir die Lieder und Tänze hinzufügen, die damit einhergehen und die Mehrheit der Mitglieder jeder Gemeinschaft zusammenbringen.

The "conventillos" or tenement house were centers that stimulated these practices. Reason why the Convetillo Mediomundo, was so important.
The most outstanding rhythms within Candombe are Cuareim, Ansina and Cordón, which correspond to names of neighborhoods in Montevideo where Candombe had its greatest roots.
Los “conventillos” o casa de vecindad fueron centros que estimularon estas prácticas. Razón por la cual el Convetillo Mediomundo, tuvo tanta importancia.
Los ritmos más destacados dentro del Candombe son Cuareim, Ansina y Cordón, que corresponden a nombres de barrios de Montevideo donde el Candombe tuvo su mayor arraigo.

But the candombe has been assumed by many Uruguayan composers, musicians and singers and today is part of the repertoire of many of them. This is the case of one of Uruguay's most beloved artists, Rubén "El Negro" Rada.

In the year 2000 I was with a musical project called Mestice and that year my second son was born. Pues, yo también digo que "debe ser"... Yo soy un amante de ese género y de la música uruguaya, pero aún no he tenido el placer de estar en esa tierra. Yo tuve el inmenso placer de formar parte de La Murga de Caracas, que es otro tipo de agrupación uruguaya, que se nutre también del candombe. Pero hasta ahí...

Versos Simples is beautiful. I love the rhythm and knowing the history of those rhythms makes it even more interesting.
