Today, the Lo-fi movement seeks to show the general public the greatness of this musical style and the possibilities it can bring, such as providing a moment of relaxation, promoting a period of reflection or helping in jobs that require a lot of creativity.
That probably largely explains why it's becoming more and more popular, as our busy lives become even more hectic, those moments of tranquility can be worth so much.
