How to prepare Folere (Zobo) | A Natural Medicinal Drink that is perfect for Health, Events, etc

What is Zobo?

Roselle or Zobo (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is a species of Hibiscus probably native to West Africa. In Cameroon, it's known as Folere. Its a very common beverage around the world and mostly used as medicinal tea. It has a ruby red in colour and has a sour taste.

What are the benefits of Folere?

There are soo many health benefits of Folere but one of the most prominent benefits that is common in our community is that it improves blood formation. Most often, we drink it to add blood.
We read through a few publications and realized the amazing health benefits of Folere and as such we will educate and encourage more people to cook and drink Folere so that they can guarantee good health. Some of the benefits include;

  1. Reduces Blood Pressure
  2. Lowers Cholesterol
  3. Protects Liver
  4. Contains Anti-cancer Properties
  5. Relieves Menstrual Pain
  6. Anti-inflammatory & Antibacterial Agent
    It is rich in ascorbic acid, also known as vitamin C, an essential nutrient required by your body to boost and stimulate the activity of the immune system. It is also used to treat discomfort caused by fever, due to its cooling effect.
  7. Antidepressant Agent
    Hibiscus tea contains vitamins and minerals like flavonoids which have antidepressant properties.

How to prepare Folere?

A few days ago, the Earth Rangers prepared Folere for their bornfire night. Today, we share how Folere is prepared in our community. Different communities have different ways of preparing the drink but today, we talk about how its prepared in our community and hope to learn about how it's prepared in your community.

You need dried petals of the hibiscus flower (zobo), water, Ginger, Pineapple, Lemon grass and a sweetener.

Put your desired quantity of water in a pot and add the zobo in it, then commence boiling.

Harvest, wash and add your Lemon grass to zobo and water.

Wash and grind your Ginger with a grinding stone; then add it to the pot.

Wash your pineapple, cut it into small pieces (don't bother peeling it), and then pound or grind it a bit and add it to the pot.

Boil for 10 - 15 mins and then allow it to cool.
Sieve, add a sweetener like honey and then enjoy.

Her #EndPlasticPollution Campaign has seen the organization sensitize more than 100,000 people about plastic pollution, upcycled more than 10,000 plastic bottles to create UPB Vertical Gardens, UPB Tree Nursery Pots, etc.

Her Textile Recycling Project (@ecodesigns) is currently training 13 young girls for free in textile recycling and fashion designing and has recycled more than 5000 pounds of textile waste.

Her Tire Upcycling Project is educating and engaging young people in schools and communities to #StopBurningTires and upcycle them to create Mushroom Tire Seats, Tire Flower Pots, etc

I do like hibiscus and this tea sounds amazing, I imagine it is quiet sweet with the pineapple. But I am a big lover of pineapple so I would love to taste it. I would always boil the water first then take it off the heat and then add the plants etc and let them infuse for about 10 minutes in the water .
