Plastic pollution !!

in #nature5 years ago (edited)

hello everyone

i want to talk today about a serious problem that affects all humans, because i think many of us are not consedering it like a big threat to us, because it didn't affect us directly and it still a little far from us, we still watch it on the tv or read it on articles or listen some people talk about it. but the human population is growing and this problem is growing with it.

I'm talking about plastic pollution, the plastic pollution is a real danger for the humanity ; since the creation of the earth and the apparence of human, everything was folowing a certain nature laws that provided a safe ecosystem.

Now, because of all sorts of pollution and earth ressources exploitation this ecosystem is living a disruption that will cause a dramatic world change.

i don't know if you can realize what we are iflicting to the nature but i will show you some pictures to make you understand that human madness.

According to the UN, there's :

  • 8.3 billion tons of plastic :

That was produced between 1950 and 2015, and this mass is growing: over the last ten years, humans have produced more plastic than during the entire twentieth century, according to the UN.

In 2015, 322 million tons were produced, compared with ... just 2 million in 1950.

  • 79% of waste :

Out of these 8.3 billion tonnes of plastic produced, 6.3 billion (79%) have already been disposed of in landfills or in the wild, particularly in the oceans. Only 9% of plastic production could be recycled and 12% incinerated.

  • 1 million of plastic bottles sold per minute :

a number of 480 billion bottle just for 2016, notice that the recycling do not cover all this mass, even if some countries are trying to reach the 100 % for recycling bottles like Germany. who is a part of the 9% of the world recycled plastic that i mentioned before , other countries do not even recycle 5 % of them.

  • 750,000

The number of debris per square kilometer that accumulates on the 7th continent, a huge mass of plastic that has accumulated in the Pacific Ocean.

Today, we estimate that oceans contain 150 million tonnes of plastics with an average of 8 million tonnes of plastic waste that ends up in the ocean each year. Like production, this number is constantly increasing.

and the most hurtfull is this :

  • the number 99 % :

that shows the rate of seabirds that will ingeste plastic in 2050, according to the Cleanseas association. Several projections estimate that if nothing is done, it could, that year, have more plastics in the oceans than fish.

In Thailand, a whale died in early June: veterinarians found more than 80 plastic bags in his body, which prevented him from ingesting any food.

Excellent blog, it is sad to see how our environment is so full of so much trash, when you see the beaches, the parks, the ecosystems full of so much plastic trash (containers, glasses, plates, bags among others), that you can not have an environmental culture in our society, about the damage that this type of waste is doing to our environment, the generation of this type of waste grows day by day
