The Curious Swiss Cheese Plant

Nature is absolutely fascinating. With plants earning a special spot as one of the most awe striking things in the world (at least for me)… They just make the world become so full of wonders, don’t you think?

The different array of colors, shapes, textures, purposes and curiosities, are just magnificent. It’s the most perfect subject for those who, as myself, love learning about everything, because no matter how much you know, you will always get surprised with something new.

And that’s the motivation that leads me to share with you guys how enchanted I was when I first saw this very particular plant, the “Swiss cheese plant” (or more scientifically known as Monstera obliqua), because it really deserves all the recognition it can get.

Not only this plant is both weird-looking and aesthetically pleasant at the same time, but it shows the creativity and resourcefulness Mother Nature can have to find a way into every corner of the planet.

Being indigenous to very windy tropical environments, this plant developed this characteristic gaps which appear in every one of its leaves as they grow (making it look like some weird person came around with a lot of spare time and a clipper), as it helps the wind go through without causing any damage and allowing its survival. (I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a really cool fact)

This is just one amazing example that shows how everything makes sense in nature, with it being simple and perfect and harmonious, a whole different world for us to admire and learn from.
