Hi Steemit family!

Today I bring you a beautiful bird that lives in American lands especially in North and South America, its beautiful plumage and shape give it the category of exotic and beautiful bird, it is the Pink Spoonbill. Come with me to discover a little about the main characteristics of this wetland bird.

It is located in almost all of America, from the United States to the capital of Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the last century its presence in the entire continent was more abundant, but due to climate change, the population of this bird has been decreasing drastically. It is common to see them more at sea level, although they have also been found at altitudes of more than 1000 meters above sea level.

They love wetlands and swampy areas or where they can find lagoons with little water and little depth, it is common to see them on the shores in a seasonal state may be alone as in most cases and sometimes in flocks when traveling from one place to another to maintain the same climatic conditions.

source

It is closely related to some species of herons and waterfowl, although the Pink Spoonbill has unmistakable features.

In terms of reproduction we can say that in the first phase is raised in colonies that are not very numerous in specimens, build their nests near the shores with branches and shrubs that get in the area, try to make them little visible, but not so far from the water, enough to be aware of the young in development.

This work of parents will do once a year because it is the time they decide to nest, the female will place a maximum of 4 eggs that have white coloration with reddish paint, the incubation process lasts approximately 24 days, both male and female will take turns to keep the eggs at an average temperature.

source

Unlike other species of birds, Pink Spoonbills are born with developed lungs and open eyes but are unable to feed by their means, parents will be responsible for doing this work for a maximum of 3 weeks until they can feed themselves.

Their diet is based on small fish, and some crustaceans if there is in the area where they live, their technique is to open the beak in shallow water until they find a prey where they close the beak and eat, the Pink Spoonbill practically does not rest, hunting 24 hours a day or until supplies run out.

I have spoken of everything but its appearance, :D as its name indicates its plumage is a pink color, but with some shades of yellow, there is a small dimorphism being females a little smaller than males, in its adult stage can have a size of 70 to 80 centimeters, while their wings extended can exceed one meter and a half in length, weighing 1.5 kilograms.

The Pink Spoonbill mainly faces natural predators such as vultures, and other varieties of birds of prey depending on their geographical location, mostly in order to eat the eggs at the time the parents are hunting.

The following predators are humans who, fascinated by their plumage, captured and killed more than 10,000 specimens last century. Their feathers were frequently used in clothing imposed by international fashion.

It should not be confused with flamingos because they are not related, but many people who live near the habitat of this bird have generated confusion because of their poor identification product of the scarce knowledge of this species.
