in #nature6 years ago

Do you dream of seeing dolphins in the wild?
Monkey Mia is the place to be.
You can find this lovely place in Western Australia about 800 km north to Perth, 25 km northeast of Denham.

Wake up early, walk to the beach, sit back and relax.

Every day, the friendly bottlenose dolphins will swimm to the Monkey Mia shore to interact with humans and to be fed.
The bottlenose dolphins are wild, so numbers and exact time of their visits varies.
So you have to be lucky and patient.
On average, 7 or 8 regulary visit the beach.

Don't expect that you are alone on the beach, because it is very touristy. But it is still very nice.
At the moment the dolphins show up, everybody want to go straight to the edge of the water.
Rangers will keep an eye on you and tell you what is allowed and what is not.
The dolphins come very close to you, so you can take some nice pictures.

The rangers have buckets with fish to feed the dolphins. They will hand out a limited number of fish. This ensures that the dolphins have to hunt for the rest of the food theirselves.

The rangers will select some visitors to assist in the feeding, so fingers crossed.
Even if you are not chosen, Monkey Mia is still very nice. It is a must sea for nature lovers.
It is also very educational, the rangers give a lot of information.

Last year, I visited this place for the fourth time. And this time I was so lucky.
I was taken by the ranger to assist the feeding. It was so cool. Me and the ranger, standing in the water with a dolphin so close. The curous face of the dolphin. I was so exicited that I forget to take pictures.
