There are more than 200 recognised species of scorpionfish.

They are noctural predators and spend the daylight hours resting in the coral.

The fish is commonly seen by divers as it lies motionless on the bottom, usually moving only when disturbed.
The body of the scorpionfish is often cover in featherly fins that helps to camouflage itself into the surrounding coral.
Also the colours and marking of the scorpionfish is used to help the scorpionfish to hide.

Scorpionfish have large heavily ridged heads and venomous spines on their back and fins.
A scorpionfish sting causes intense pain and swelling at the site of the sting. The swelling can spread to affect an entire arm or leg within minutes.

Ohter symptoms can include:
*delerium
*diarrhea
*fainting
*paralysis
*shortness of breath
*heart rate changes, fast or slow.

After a sting. Seek immediate medical attention. Wash the area with warm water if possible. Soak the wound in the hottest water the person can tollerate for 30 - 90 minutes while seeking medical attention.

So scuba divers, keep looking for this beautiful fish, but be careful.

They are so hard to spot. Seen 3-4 while diving and probably overlooked 10 times as much. Remember one where I know I filmed him with my GoPro but had to look for minutes to see it back home.
