Paphos
Paphos is very popular with tourists, and tourism is an important source of income for the city. It has beautiful beaches, and the nature in and around the Troodos is also very rich in vegetation and sights.
Paphos has an international airport, where many charter flights fly. This is southeast of the city. The port of Paphos is not that important: normal shipping goes through the port of Limassol. The marina of Paphos for yachts and the like is also important. There is no railway on the island, by bus one can reach other places of the island.
Not far from the city the rock of Aphrodite (Petra tou Romiou) rises from the sea. According to legend, Aphrodite, the goddess of beauty, was born here from the waves of the sea. The name Petra tou Romiou literally means Rock of the Romans in Greek.
A distinction is made between various parts of the city, Pano Paphos (Upper Paphos), Kato Paphos (Lower Paphos), Nea Paphos (New Paphos) and Ktima Paphos.
