This is also known as an Okapi and it looks like a zebra mixed with something else, but it actually belongs to the giraffe family. They are about the average height of an antelope and weigh about 200 kg to about 350 kg as adults. They are native only to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and live in the canopy forests where they eat tree leaves, grasses, ferns and fruit. In the picture below you can see it's tongue which is really long used to grasp vegetation.

The males are the only ones that have horns like in the picture above. They are generally solitary animals, but do come together for mating. Males have larger territories than females, but allow females to pass through them. They are able to mate all year round, are pregnant for more than a year and give birth to a baby that is able to walk after about 30 minutes. In the picture below is a mother and a baby.

Unfortunately they are endangered due to deforestation. Their range is very small in the world and getting smaller.

Hope you enjoyed the post!

Very interesting animal. They probably have very little. We must protect and care about them. This is our smaller brothers.

You have a very interesting Blog.

Informative and nice pictures.

Its our responsibility to protect them because they are not hurting us and our family but due to deforestation we are pushing them into diminishing state.

Great post, have a great day.

Beautiful :)

nice good to be here @abdulsalim

great shots!
Love wilderness <3

Kamusta! I wish they were mine, but I got them of the net.

Kamusta! I'm good and hope you are too.
Is that so, sad but it looks great!

Wow, never seen one before! Thank you so much. So beautiful!

I am glad you liked it.

Wow, what a beast! So so giraffe and so so zebra... what an amazing animal, thanks for the education. It's a pity that the world is not as educated about the harm that killing off forests does. We call ourselves smart, but I think we are the most greedy and stupid animals on the planet. Our greed, our cutting our nose off despite our faces is truly unforgivable and disgusting. Thank you, without you, I would never have known of this beautiful beasts existence. Thank you. I will follow you for more exciting and educational posts. Much appreciation @steemsausage

I am glad that you liked it, sadly we all, in some way, destroy the environment around us, and we don't even know it sometimes.
