In Croatia this plant grows in close proximity to the sea. Here on the photos below, we can see it in bloom. It develops it's yellow-green flowers in august and septembar.
It's interesting how just a crack in the rock, over the sea, is enough for this plant to grow.
Samphire is a perennial, strong and edible plant. It's fleshy and firm leaves have a salty and aromatic taste.
Potential of the species as a food plant in the Adriatic coast is recently discovered, so I'm still learning about it.
I heard that the leaves should be gathered early in the year and pickled or eaten in salads with oil and vinegar.
I must try some of these recipes...But first - I'll go swimming, it looks so inviting :)
