KNOWING THE NATURAL MONUMENT "TETAS DE MARÍA GUEVARA"

in #nature6 years ago

Hello dear friends of Steemit. Today I want to show you one of the many attractions of the island of Margarita, turning it into a fascinating tropical paradise, one of these wonders of which I speak is the "Natural Monument Tetas de María Guevara", which is part of the famous "Laguna National Park" La Restinga ", belonging to Tubores municipality, Nueva Esparta state.

The Natural Monument Las Tetas de María Guevara is made up of two twin hills located on the plain of the Isla de Margarita, it was declared a Natural Monument on February 27, 1974. The hills measure approximately 135 meters, extend over an area of 1,670 hectares . Within the monument there are three coastal lagoons: Punta de Piedra, Boca de Palo and Laguna de Raya, which are hypersaline, turbid waters and muddy bottom.

In these Margariteñas populations there are many versions about the origin of their name:

Some say that María Guevara was a mestizo woman, native of the city of Cumaná of Sucre state; who was very outstanding for participating in the fight for independence of Venezuela; many claim that his tomb lies beneath these mountains. They also argue that this woman had small breasts and was very popular for the sailors who arrived at the port of Punta de Piedras. And that his friends when seeing the mountains said: "that's where María Guevara left her tits", in the form of a joke. Others also say that this woman had a great fortune, and was engaged in trade, which boosted the economic development of that region and that is why its inhabitants referred to this area as María Guevara's Tits.

Actually this monument is very famous in our state, since you come by ferry you can see these impressive twin mountains, but all my life I had seen them from afar, always with the curiosity of being able to go to them.

Until finally the opportunity came to go to carry out some environmental studies, we could have the authorization of Inparques (National Parks Institute) who accompanied us on this tour, with all the security measures together with the State Fire Brigade. During the tour we observed a xerophilous vegetation because the area is characterized by being semi-desert and in terms of fauna it was possible to appreciate that most of the species of that ecosystem are reptiles.

It is advisable to be accompanied by people who know the area, wear appropriate clothing for mountain, use sunscreen, with your respective snack, taking into account not leaving trash, you just have to want to enjoy this landscape, here you can go hiking or walking because of its lagoons, if you really like nature, you will not regret it. Greetings.
