THE RETURN OF THE LUNA MOTHS

in #nature5 years ago

They're back!

While wrapping up some things outside the other night, I noticed a big, beautiful, green moth. The Luna Moths are apparently emerging from their cacoons, and soon we should be seeing more and more of them. This one was rather "fresh" and still had a darker hue to its wings, which lead me to think that it was still drying out. Here's a few photos that I snapped quick before I had to head in for the night. Enjoy!

They are so beautiful, almost seem otherworldly. I live too far north and west now to ever see them; occasionally one would show up when I lived in Ohio.

Bright Blessings!

What a gorgeous creation!

Cool i've only been able to find the caterpillars but never the full moth.

Beautiful. Are they pests? Do they make damage to crops or forests?

those really look amazing, much better then the regular old brown ones... any idea why they are named after the moon?

I see these every once in a while, so mystical and beautiful, I absolutely love them! Thanks for sharing.
