Netta rufina (Red-crested pochard) Netta rufina (Kolbenente)
  • This species occurs in many western, central and eastern European countries and was also introduced to Great Britain, but breeds in most of Europe only in very scattered populations. Whereas the main breading areas are around the black sea reaching until Mongolia and China.

  • Diese Art kommt in den meisten west-, zentral- und ost-europäischen Ländern vor und wurde auch in Großbritannien eingeführt, brütet jedoch im Großteil Europas nur in sehr zerstreuten Populationen. Wohingegen die Haupt Brutgebiete rund um das schwarze Meer liegen und bis in die Mongolei und nach China reichen.

  • The 53-58 cm big duck weighs between 800 and 1500 g and reaches a wingspan of 84-90 cm. The adult male has a conspicuous brownish red head, a red bill, black breast, whitish flanks, a brown back and black tale. The females have a brownish feathering with a slightly paler color on the flanks and neck than on the back. Grayish cheeks and a red crossband at the end of the beak makes the females also recognizable.
  • Die 53-58 cm großen Enten wiegen zwischen 800 und 1500 g und erreichen eine Flügelspannweite von 84-90 cm. Die adulten Männchen haben einen auffälligen bräunlich roten Kopf, einen roten Schnabel, weiße Flanken, einen braunen Rücken und einen schwarzen Schwanz. Die Weibchen haben ein bräunliches Gefieder mit etwas helleren Farben auf den Flanken und dem Hals, als auf dem Rücken. Gräuliche Wangen und ein rotes Querband am Ende des Schnabels machen auch das Weibchen erkennbar.

  • The main habitat of Netta rufina are deep and large lakes and rivers or lagoons with fresh or brackish water. Where they feed on all sorts of different water plants and algae and with taking up this plant parts also small animals that are attached to it get eaten (but play only a minor role in the diet).

  • Das Haupthabitat von Netta rufina sind tiefe und große Seen und Flüsse oder Lagunen mit Süß- oder Brackwasser. Wo sie sich von allen möglichen Wasserpflanzen und Algen ernähren und mit der Aufnahme dieser Pflanzenteile werden auch kleine Tiere, die daran festhaften, mit gegessen (diese spielen aber nur eine geringe Rolle in der Ernährung).

  • This duck is mostly a migratory bird that breads in small groups or just pairs between April and June. The nests are build out of roots, twigs and other plant material into the vegetation of the shore area and the females usually lay between 8-12 eggs into it. The female breeds the eggs for around 26 days until the ducklings hatch and the males usually stay relatively close to the nest to surveil it.

  • Diese Ente ist hauptsächlich ein Zugvogel und brütet in kleinen Gruppen oder nur in Paaren zwischen April und Juni. Die Nester werden aus Wurzeln, Ästen und anderem Pflanzenmaterial in die Vegetation der Uferregion gebaut und die Weibchen legen für gewöhnlich 8-12 Eier in das Nest. Das Weibchen brütet die Eier für ungefähr 26 Tage bis die Entchen schlüpfen und das Männchen bleibt meist relativ in der Nähe des Nestes um es zu überwachen.

  • The current population trend of this species is unknown, but due to its relatively wide distribution and partly large population sizes it is considered not to be threatened. However, in some areas habitat destruction and hunting can indeed be a major threat for the ducks.

  • Der derzeitige Populations Trend ist unbekannt, aber aufgrund der relativ weiten Verbreitung und der zum Teil großen Populationen, wird sie als nicht bedroht betrachtet. Jedoch kann in manchen Gebieten die Habitat Zerstörung und die Jagd durchaus eine große Gefahr für die Enten darstellen.
