Yes it's quite incredible to go crystal mining!! Different kinds form under different conditions. This type is in Arizona, where some can literally be plucked right off the ground. Others you can dig 1-2 feet or more to find.
Wow! I would never have guessed. If my daughter had said, where do crystals come from? I would have probably guessed deep underground in caves or something, before Googling it! :-)
