Catalina Mariposa Lily (Calochortus catalinae) Native California wildflower
Getting better at picking out local California plants! The Catalina Mariposa Lily is both native and endemic to California. For those of you like me that forgot their Intro to Biology class in high school, endemic to California means only found in California. This small flower is about one inch across and plants are about 4 to six inches high. This is another plant thats bulbs were eaten by native americans.

Very pretty flower. The area looks quite dry but the trees very green. Are Oak trees natural to the area?
The oaks are Quercus agrifolia, California or Coast live oaks. Live oaks keep theie leaves and stay green year round. Thats why they provide such a beautiful contrast to the brown hills during our dry season here. Yes they are native.
