Cicada

in #nature6 years ago

I learned something new!

Apparently we have cicadas in Edmonton!

I honestly didn't think we had any this far north but I guess I was wrong!

This guy was singing his song and we stopped, curious as to what it was.

Then we spotted him! So cool!

Oooh that's so awesome, I didn't know they lived up there either. Sweet captures! Thanks for sharing @theneohippy! This post would make a great #ulog 💚

Thanks @lindsaybowes! What's a ulog?

It's a new tag/community on steemit. Basically it's to get people posting every day. Even one of your photos and a bit of a description of your moment/day counts! There are some great people curating the ulog tag. Just go take a peek at my page and you will see the format. Just number them, and have ulog in the title as well as one of the tags!

That sounds awesome! Thank you!! :)

We had loads of them in the little town I grew up in. They were seasonal. When I was a child I used to catch them to frighten family members! 😂 Haven’t seen one in a long time.

I've seen them in videos and pictures and on the BBC's planet earth series where they take over entire forests, they're so cool! I never thought I'd get to see one in real life though :)
That's awesome you used to catch them! They seem pretty docile LoL

Nice pictures! Here in Varna, they appear in July and make very intense high-pitched noise.

Yes! The sound from just one was quite intense, I can't imagine being in forests where they are there in the thousands!

Your going to think I’m crazy but those things are so great to eat!!! I haven’t seen them since I’ve lived in Kentucky 17 years ago!!!

When I saw this comment I assumed you were talking about the nasturtiums!!! Lmao
Eeeew!
How did you eat them? Like the way people eat crickets? Seems like cicadas would be all gooey inside though!

I was first dared to eat one raw, so I did at it reminded me of almonds! I then went online and got some recipes for them. I actually found out they are in the same family as shirmp! I implore you to consider 😉

Hahaha no way! If I wouldn't eat a cow I wouldn't eat a cicada either 😆

ahh, now thats a dilemma. lol Are you vegan, or vegetarian?

Not quite vegan, more plant based. I don't eat animals normally but I'm not opposed to things like animals ownership and eating honey. So, mostly plant based LoL
